2021 Average Annual Wage
OLYMPIA – Washington’s average annual wage grew by 7.5% in 2021 to $82,508, according to the state Employment Security Department. The strong demand for workers and hiring difficulties across different sectors drove average wage growth in 2021 to the second largest in more than two decades.

Bill to provide unemployment tax relief to most Washington employers
During the 2022 legislative session, legislators passed a bill that provides tax relief to employers in Washington. Senate Bill 5873 (SB 5873), sponsored by Sen. Karen Keiser (D-Des Moines), reduces social tax rates for employers in 2022 and 2023. It also reduces the 2023 social tax rates for employers who report 10 or fewer employees for fourth quarter 2021.
