About the WorkFirst program
WorkFirst is a program that helps people receiving government aid find a job. We work with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and other state agencies to provide this program.
WorkFirst requirements
To take part in WorkFirst, you need to be:
- Receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits.
- Referred by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
Finding a job through WorkFirst
We help WorkFirst participants find a job and keep it. Our part of the WorkFirst program is called Career Scope Job Search.
If you participate in this program, you will need to meet with a career coach and keep a log of your job search activities. We will contact you by phone or email to assign you a career coach and schedule an orientation.
Attending your orientation
The WorkFirst orientation explains how the program works and what you will need to do. Watch this 10-minute video to learn how WorkFirst can help you find a career.
Working with a career coach
Your career coach will meet with you at your orientation and once a week to:
- Tell you about the program and how we can help you.
- Learn about your work skills and interests.
- Help you create a resume.
- Help you improve your interviewing and job searching skills.
- Refer you to other helpful training and workshops.
- Show you how to research careers and find jobs that interest you.
- Refer you to jobs.
- Help you progress in your career, even after your TANF benefits expire.
Updating your activity log
Each week, you will log into the WorkSource website to record the activities you do to find a job. For instructions on completing your activity log, view:
