Observed each year on the third Monday in January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday and National Day of Service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.

We invite you to volunteer at one of our Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service events. Find a list of upcoming MLK Day service projects on the Washington Service Corps website.

Over the last 30 years, the MLK Day of Service has grown. Its impact has increased as more Americans embrace the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving our communities.

Every year, we show the nation that joining in service can transform the lives of those who serve and who are served. Through service and volunteerism, we have the power to unite, to help those in need, to improve our communities, to inspire, and to create the “beloved community” of Dr. King’s dreams.

The Washington Service Corps was established by the Washington State Legislature in 1983 to promote community service and support employment in Washington state. Administered by the Employment Security Department, the Service Corps is the largest AmeriCorps program in the state. Every year, we support hundreds of AmeriCorps opportunities at schools, nonprofits, government agencies, tribes, and other community service organizations throughout Washington.

Pledge to make a difference this MLK Day!  Join us to build a beloved community through unity, service and transformation.
