Labor force (LAUS)
Local area unemployment statistics are monthly estimates of the labor force, including employment, unemployment and unemployment rates statewide, by county and by metropolitan area. Every month, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) surveys households to learn whether residents are employed or unemployed and looking for work. The survey does not count people who have stopped looking for work. We use these survey data to create local unemployment estimates. These estimates are included in our monthly employment report. 2016 report publication dates. Alternate measures of labor underutilization are discussed here.
