About the Washington Service Corps
The Washington Service Corps (WSC) is an AmeriCorps national service program. It places over 500 members every year in the WSC and its sister program: the Washington Reading Corps. The Employment Security Department administers both programs.
Members serve like apprentices with nonprofits, government offices, schools and faith-based organizations statewide. WSC AmeriCorps members serve 40 hours per week for 10.5 months. They focus on issues, such as:
- Student academic improvement.
- Environmental education and restoration.
- Economic mobility.
- Digital literacy.
- Disaster preparedness.
- Food security.
- Access to health care.
