Legislature confirms Commissioner Feek’s appointment to lead Employment Security Department
On Mar. 10, the Washington State Senate voted to confirm Cami Feek’s appointment as Commissioner of Employment Security Department (ESD). Gov. Jay Inslee named Feek commissioner of ESD in June 2021, when she was serving as acting commissioner for a second time. Feek first served as acting commissioner in 2018 and has provided leadership to ESD as deputy commissioner and chief operating officer over the past three years.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance application deadline extended
The application filing deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance has been extended to April 8, 2022, for qualifying workers affected by the November flooding and mudslides. The deadline was originally set for March 9, 2022, but the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) approved an extension.

Workers affected by November floods might qualify for retroactive Disaster Unemployment Assistance
Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) has been activated to help workers impacted by the floods in specific counties and tribal lands from Nov. 5 to Dec. 2, 2021. The federal declaration for the November storm events occurred on Jan. 5, 2022, and DUA benefits can be paid retroactively for weeks you were unemployed as a direct result of the disaster.

Monthly initial and continuing unemployment insurance claims report for December 2021
For the 4-week moving average ending Jan. 1, 2022, compared to the previous 4-week moving average:
- Regular initial claims increased by 1,826 to a total of 7,490. As with the previous 4-week moving average, the increase is likely due to seasonal layoffs, primarily in the construction and agriculture industries.
- Regular continued claims increased by 3,713 to a total of 49,848.
