YesVets pilot project aims to get more employers to say “Yes” to hiring veterans
OLYMPIA – Washington state is urging businesses to say “yes” to the state’s veterans when filling open positions. The YesVets pilot project will start in Klickitat, Kittitas, Skamania, and Yakima counties this month—and employers across the state may be able to participate by early summer.

Inslee helps secure federal assistance for Alcoa curtailment in Wenatchee and Ferndale
OLYMPIA— Gov. Jay Inslee today thanked the US Department of Labor for approving his request for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) and Reemployment Trade Adjustment Assistance (RTAA) to assist workers and contractors affected by the recently-announced curtailment of the Alcoa facilities in Wenatchee and Ferndale. This curtailment is part of the company’s response to global economic forces, most notably the price of aluminum. Alcoa recently decided to delay curtailment of its facility in Ferndale until the end of the second quarter of 2016.

Washington adds 68,000 jobs in 2015
OLYMPIA –Washington added 68,000 new jobs from December 2014 to December 2015 on a not seasonally adjusted basis. The private sector grew by 58,600 jobs and the public sector added 9,400, according to the December Monthly Employment Report.
