OLYMPIA – The Washington Service Corps needs people 17 years and older who are interested in making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged people in Tacoma, Renton, Seattle, Everett, Moses Lake and Chewelah.
Seven government and non-profit organizations have positions available, but act fast! Applications are due Jan. 22.
Open positions
- Tacoma — Pierce County Housing Authority, “Ready to Rent” program
Washington Service Corps AmeriCorps members will help a diverse population of Pierce County residents find stable housing, learn basic financial education and complete housing applications. - Tacoma — Lutheran Community Services Northwest
Provides social services to refugees, immigrants and others in need. Service Corps AmeriCorps members will help unemployed people search for jobs, write resumes, submit job applications and prepare for interviews. - Renton — Seattle-King Workforce Development Council, Partnership to Reconnectprogram.
Service Corps AmeriCorps members will reach out to low income youth in South King County, providing information and resources to engage them in job and educational opportunities. - Seattle – Neighborhood House
Provides multiple education and employment services to low income, immigrant and refugee communities in King County. Service Corps AmeriCorps members will help clients find stable jobs or apply for college. - Everett – WorkSource Everett, Return to Work program.
Through workshops and one-on-one consultations, Service Corps AmeriCorps members will help job seekers use technology to write resumes, and search for and apply for jobs. - Moses Lake — SkillSource, Youth Training and Development program
Service Corps AmeriCorps members will help disadvantaged students explore careers and develop job and life skills. - Chewelah — Gess Elementary
Service Corps AmeriCorps members will tutor K-6 students struggling with reading and math.

The Washington Service Corps is part of the federal AmeriCorps program and is administered by the state Employment Security Department. More than 700 members are currently serving in communities statewide.
Washington Service Corps members commit to 10 ½-month terms of community service through AmeriCorps. In return, they receive a modest living allowance, health insurance, training and an educational scholarship. Eligible members with children also can receive help with childcare.
