OLYMPIA – The Washington State Employment Security Department has created a Web page with information about unemployment benefits for workers and businesses affected by Eastern Washington wildfires.

For workers:

Anyone who is out of work due to the disaster may apply for unemployment benefits, even if they’re not sure they qualify.

Individuals may apply online at esd.wa.gov or by phone (800-318-6022).

ESD will waive work search requirements for up to four weeks for new and current claimants impacted by the wildfires.

For employers:

With quarterly state unemployment tax reports and payments due by July 31, the Washington State Employment Security Department reminds businesses impacted by wildfires in Eastern Washington, they may request assistance.

Business owners in Eastern Washington who fear they will miss the deadline due to the state of emergency may request a late payment penalty waiver by contacting their local tax account management center at 855-TAX-WAGE (855-829-9243) and selecting option 2.
