OLYMPIA – The Washington State Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues & Employment is seeking award nominations for employers and individuals who make extra efforts to recruit, hire, promote and retain employees with disabilities.

“People with disabilities face more challenges than most people in finding work,” said Toby Olson, executive secretary of the Governor’s Committee. “This award provides an opportunity to honor employers who are serving as role models for the rest of the community.”

There are two categories of awards.

Governor’s Employer Awards will be presented to up to 10 employers. Employers may nominate themselves and others.

The Governor’s Trophyhonors one individual with a disability who has empowered people with disabilities to succeed in the community and workforce.

Nominations are due by Aug. 30, 2014. The online form includes nomination instructions and more information. It can be used for either award. Winners will receive the awards at a ceremony in Olympia this fall.

For help with the application or to request it in another format, contact Melinda Johnson at 509-482-3854 or msjohnson@esd.wa.gov
