Labor market takes a step up in July
OLYMPIA – Washington’s economy added 12,400 jobs in July and the state’s seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate for July was 4.6 percent according to the Employment Security Department. The July unemployment rate decreased slightly from the June 2018 unemployment rate of 4.7 percent, matching a historical low.

Washington awarded nearly $5 million in federal funds to help people affected by the opioid crisis find employment
OLYMPIA - Gov. Jay Inslee today announced nearly $5 million in new federal grant funds to help Washingtonians affected by opioid use disorder find employment. The National Health Emergency Dislocated Worker Demonstration Grant will support projects in Snohomish, Grays Harbor, Mason, Thurston, Lewis and Pacific counties.

Community service generates reading explosion and other rewards
Washington Reading Corps member Kathryn Dressler caused an explosion in an elementary school classroom last year and didn’t hurt a soul.
In fact, the kids felt like superheroes and the teachers cheered because the blast blew the kids’ reading scores through the roof. It was a “reading explosion,” said some teachers at the Olympia Regional Learning Academy. -

Labor market strengthened further in June
OLYMPIA – Washington’s economy added 4,100 jobs in June and the state’s seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate for June was 4.7 percent according to the Employment Security Department. The June unemployment rate was unchanged from May 2018 unemployment rate of 4.7 percent.
