New workplace poster provides information to victims about local domestic violence resources
A new domestic violence survivor resources poster that will be featured in all Washington workplaces was unveiled today (Friday) during a news conference at the YWCA of Yakima by Rep. Gina Mosbrucker and Washington Employment Security Department (ESD) Commissioner Suzi LeVine. The poster will be produced and distributed by ESD.

ESD Establishes Agricultural and Seasonal Workforce Services Advisory Committee, announces first meeting Aug. 26
OLYMPIA - The Employment Security Department (ESD) today announced the inaugural members of the Agricultural and Seasonal Workforce Services Advisory Committee with members representing agricultural workers and employers tasked with examining issues critical to Washington’s over $10 billion agriculture economy. The first meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at ESD headquarters in Olympia, Washington.

Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits one-step closer as technology system launches
OLYMPIA - Monday marked a major milestone in the run-up to Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits becoming available statewide in January 2020. The new system launched for employer reporting and payments in time for 2019 quarters one and two reporting to begin on July 1.

Governor Inslee awards $5.8 million in grants for local communities to improve lives of families facing poverty
Gov. Jay Inslee recently awarded $5.8 million in grants to fight poverty in Washington. The grants, awarded from the Governor’s federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Statewide Activities fund, will support organizations in four local Workforce Development Areas (WDAs) who are developing plans and sustainable activities to lift approximately 900 poverty-level families to above 200 percent of federal poverty level (FPL).

Payroll hiring moderates slightly in May
Washington’s economy gained 9,600 jobs in May and the state’s seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate for May remained steady at 4.7 percent, according to the Employment Security Department. The revised estimated April 2019 unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.7 percent.
