OLYMPIA –Twenty-one businesses are hanging out the help-wanted sign as part of a huge hiring blitz to fill more than 500 new jobs in Clark and Cowlitz counties.

WorkSource centers in southwest Washington have geared up to connect qualified jobseekers to these manufacturing and professional openings.

“This hiring news couldn’t have come at a better time, with unemployment above 10 percent in this area,” said Robert Brown, Employment Security’s area director in Southwest Washington. “We’ve never seen this much demand from such a wide range of employers at one time.”

The list of industries hiring includes high-tech, bio-fuels, glass and steel, with jobs in assembly, tech support and sales.  Most pay $15 to 30 an hour and include benefits.

“Many of the companies that are hiring have direct sales to overseas markets, which are recovering faster than the U.S. economy,” said Bonnie Moore, business services director for the Columbia River Economic Development Council, a partner of WorkSource.

Interested job seekers can learn more about these openings by visiting WorkSource career centers in Vancouver or Kelso, or by calling 360-735-5000.

WorkSource is a statewide partnership of Employment Security, workforce development councils, other state agencies, colleges and nonprofit organizations that work together to provide free employment and training services to job seekers and employers. WorkSource also can help employers recruit and screen for qualified workers, apply for employment tax breaks and qualify for subsidized employee training.
