OLYMPIA – Two state cabinet officials visited Continuant in Fife today to honor the company for its stellar record of hiring military veterans.

Employment Security Commissioner Paul Trause and John Lee, director of the Washington Department of Veteran Affairs, presented a Hire-A-Vet Award to the telecom service company’s CEO, Doug Graham.

“Continuant has made a commitment to hiring veterans, which is important in a community that is home to a lot of former military members,” said Trause.

“Veterans add valuable intangibles to our company’s culture, such as integrity and work ethic. I have always been able to count on a veteran to get the job done,” Graham said.

Veterans make up 15 percent of Continuant’s total workforce, which maintains communication and data systems for corporations and other clients. Three veterans were hired in the last month, and the company has committed to hiring more veterans in the future.

“Continuant is setting a great example for the community and the entire state,” Lee said. “I hope other businesses will make a similar commitment to hiring veterans returning to civilian life.”

Employment Security created the Hire-A-Vet Award in 2006 as a way to call attention to the large number of unemployed veterans in Washington and to recognize companies with a good track record of hiring veterans.

Employers who are interested in hiring veterans and veterans who are looking for work should visit their local WorkSource center or call 800-562-2308 for information.

WorkSource is a statewide partnership of Employment Security, other state agencies, local governments, colleges and nonprofit organizations that work together to provide employment and training services to job seekers and employers.
