Cowlitz County's labor market highlights
- Timber and wood products have historically been a large part of Cowlitz County’s economy. The industry has declined statewide as paper mills have consolidated, but several firms are still operating in Longview.
- Manufacturing is the largest industry in the county. Paper and wood products make up the bulk of employment, with food manufacturing following closely behind.
- The county is well connected to road, rail and maritime transportation, making it an important trade hub. The highest average annual wages in the county are in the transportation and warehousing industry.
